This week in Dublin three Rhinoceros heads were stolen from a museum. A guard was tied up by a gang who then made off with the heads, the horns are worth up to $630, 000 on the black market. But this is not a lone case of grand theft horn. Earlier in the month a man was arrested at the Natural History Museum of France when he attempted to use a chainsaw to cut the tusks off an Elephant Skeleton. Surprisingly it was not the noise of the chainsaw that set the alarms off.
The high demand for the supposedly medicinal horns and priceless Ivory has alerted burglars across Europe to the possible gold mines of massacred and stolen beasts sitting in every city. But The Traitist asks, can you really be charged for stealing stolen goods?
Guantanamo Bay has been in the headlines lately with lots of leaked reports on the prisons deteriorating conditions. Guards are reported to not have control and prisoners are being surgically fed everyday due to mass hunger strikes. One guard said of the prisoners ‘They don’t like us, that’s the general mood’. Not surprising seeing that most inmates have not had a charge laid or trial in eleven years. The prisoners can at least be spared the humiliation of being forced to re-enact Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’.
Riots in Kuwait after an opposition leader was arrested for insulting the emir. This is nothing new in Kuwait there are over ten opposition MP’s and tweeters currently in prison for slagging off a head of state. Kuwait has become the envy of Margret Thatcher admirers all over England.
The disastrous fertilizer plant explosion in Texas fell on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the Waco disaster. In 1993 76 people died including 20 children during a siege involving a notorious cult leader. Waco is not far from the recent disaster, in fact the injured were treated at Waco hospital.
The type of fertilizer produced at the plant was the same that was used in the Oklahoma bombing and in Oslo in 1993. The plant had not had a safety assessment since 1985. This is a disaster no one could have predicted.
Recently The Traitist reported on thousands of dead pigs and ducks floating down a river in Shanghai. This week in the city of Yanshi, China authorities are investigating 410 pigs and 122 dogs that have died overnight. Authorities not sure if local chemical plant is to blame or whether China is experiencing a spate of biblical plagues. Which must be confusing for a traditionally Buddhist nation.
In India a Bollywood star has been given time to finish off working on some films before he goes to prison for weapons charges from 1993. The judge may have felt that being in a Bollywood film was punishment enough.
The Boston bombings have caused a spike in violence and suspicion of Muslim Americans even before the suspect was identified.. The first suspect the police looked into was a Saudi man who was seen on CCTV running away from the scene. He was interrogated and his apartment searched, it turns out he was just running away from a bomb blast just like everyone else. CNN and Fox News ran the story and helped stir the hysteria. But when it turned out the suspects were of European decent the media sources started referring to them as ‘Radicals’ rather than ‘Terrorists’. They started using terms like ‘They look like us’ and ‘They look normal’. Normal like Timothy McVeigh.
In Brooklyn an off-duty Police Officer shot her husband, one year old child and herself on the same day as the Boston bombing. Doesn’t even get reported.
Looks like things may get even hotter in Syria even on a day when 500 dead civilians and rebels found on the outskirts of the capital Damascus. With the Rebels getting closer, Israel has shown concern over Assad’s Chemical and Anti-Aircraft weapons falling into the ‘wrong’ hands. It may even become a scenario similar to the fall of Berlin at the end of WW2 when Russia and the U.S. raced to get their hands on Hitlers weapons, technology and scientific experiments. Syria may look like an old western movie, a ye old land grab between America, Israel, Saudi Arabia and possibly Russia staking their claims for a just cause. Will they use the old excuse of exporting democracy or maybe taking down an evil tyrant or maybe the old favourite weapons of mass destruction claim. All sounds a bit to familiar, surely they wont go down that path.
But recently Israel has said it has evidence Assad has already used Chemical weapons on civilians and rebels. The U.S. has stated if Assad has used chemical weapons he would have crossed the line and it would be a ‘game changer’. They’ll put up with a lot of genocide before they cross that line.
